Sirius * the brightest star in the night sky - and a very special dog.
The story
Sirius symbolises the deep connection between man and dog, a relationship that has existed for thousands of years. We have evolved side by side, paw to paw, leaving our mark on the path of life together.
When I decided to paint Sirius, it was immediately clear who the model would be: my dog Chili. She has an incredibly lovable, complex personality and many faces; this is her most serious one. After I adopted her many years ago, she has accompanied me through turbulent times and shaped my identity. Our travels and adventures together have bonded us in a very special friendship. Sirius is that special dog for all of humanity.
As the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius acts as a guiding star, a point of reference through all seasons. Sirius, harbinger of the storms and scorching heat of summer; in ancient Egypt it heralded the beginning of the Nile flood, an event of vital importance.
Since the gods placed Sirius as a star in the sky, whether out of pity or punishment, it has been watched - and watched us. Cultures and peoples come and go, empires rise and fall. Greatness and wonder, horror and destruction, nature and the forces of nature - nothing can surprise it.
Sirius has seen it all.
